The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 282 is a Boy Scout troop sponsored by Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran Church in Gilbert, Arizona and is devoted to making honorable men of boys.

Troop 282 maintains a fun and busy calendar of activities that includes official Boy Scout camporees, summer camp, weekend camping trips, backpacking, canoe trips. In addition, the boys of Troop 282 participate in giving back to the community through regular service projects. All this is done with the goal of developing the boys of Troop 282 into leaders and men of character and integrity.

Troop 282 will promote the goals of the Boy Scouts of America by having a fun troop program that gives scouts a positive outlet for their energy, leadership opportunities, exposure to a variety of skills, and outdoor experiences – all while teaching scouts teamwork and social skills so that they will become active citizens and leaders in the community.

Troop 282

We welcome and encourage scouting families to help out with the troop. The adult volunteers of the troop can be divided into two areas — the Troop Committee and the Scoutmasters. The Committee needs help in various areas and you can speak to anyone on the Committee for more details. The Committee provides the support for the entire troop, but does not lead the Scouts in the Scouting method. That is provided by the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters.

If you are interested in being an Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 282 has the following requirements:

  • Family is active member of the troop for 6 months or more (3 months from Pack)
  • Participate as a parent on at least 3 outings
  • Agree to participate and contribute on an ongoing basis for the benefit of all scouts and the troop
  • Complete all on-line BSA leadership/safety/youth protection courses - and- agree to complete the next scheduledLeader Specific Training” provided by the San Tan District
  • Background Check - this includes 3 positive references
  • Agreement amongst sitting Scoutmasters
  • Approval of the Troop Executive Committee

Note – this does NOT mean that you cannot participate during this 6 months. We highly encourage you to serve in other positions of the troop, such as the Troop Committee. Additionally, you should consider using this time to complete your training.

Again, we encourage you to submit an Adult Leader registration form.
